"We met in dreams but not in time"

There was a boy — a boy who often got lost in thoughts about the universe. What lies beyond the galaxies? What exists outside the known cosmos? These questions filled his mind.

Every night, as he drifted off to sleep, he met a girl — someone he had never seen in real life. She seemed both strange and familiar, almost as if she wanted to share something important. At first, he thought she was just part of a dream. But soon, they began to talk. They started meeting in his dreams, and their connection grew stronger. One day, they even went to school together in that dream world. They spent time together, like ordinary classmates… and then like best friends.

Before long, the boy found himself falling in love. He began sleeping earlier each night just to see her again. It became the one place he truly wanted to be. But then something changed.

One night, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t fall asleep. When he finally did, she wasn’t there. His real life began to feel heavy — he was always tired, always longing for sleep. His family became concerned. Yet for him, the real world seemed unimportant — only the dreams mattered.

Then, one night, she came back. She looked at him with sadness in her eyes and said, "Come to me... please." He replied softly, "I’m already with you." But she shook her head and said, "No... this is a dream."

In that moment, he woke up.

It hit him hard. That moment changed everything for him. He fell into silence, feeling a pain he didn’t understand. The dreams stopped. Weeks turned into months. He tried to move on.

When the next school year began, something unexpected happened. A new girl joined his class. It was her. The same girl from his dreams.

He tried to talk to her, but she didn’t respond. He kept trying, but she remained distant. Four years went by like this. Four years of holding onto something that felt real to him, but not to her. To her, he was just a stranger.

Then, one night — after a long time — he had another dream.

She was there again.

She looked into his eyes and asked, "Why don’t you talk to me anymore?" He replied, "I’ve always wanted to… but you didn’t want to talk to me."

She seemed puzzled for a moment, then whispered, "This is a dream again. But I want to talk to you… in real life." This time, the boy didn’t wake up. He stayed.

Curious, he asked, "What’s happening to me?"

She gazed at him, as if discovering the truth, "I think… we’re from different universes. Maybe that’s why everything feels broken."

In that moment, everything clicked for him — he had been in love with a version of her from another universe all along.

Then she revealed something that touched his heart even more.

"In my universe," she said, "there’s a version of you too… and he never speaks to me either. Just like your version of me."

They were connected… yet always apart.

Two souls, deeply in love. Living in dreams. But from two different realities. And perhaps… that’s why they could never truly be together.

Even with all the dreams, the silent conversations, and years of longing — the truth felt heavier than he ever imagined.

They were not meant to meet. Not in this life. Not in any version of reality they knew.

Both belonged to different universes — souls that were never born in the worlds they should have been.

The boy's universe had a version of her — but not her. The girl's universe had someone who looked like him — but not him.

Their true selves were trapped in dreams, not by choice, but because the universe misplaced them.

As they realized they were never meant to cross paths in any real world, the dream began to fade… slowly… like a memory slipping through time.

They loved each other deeply. But they could never be together.

Because they were never born… where they were meant to be.

Two souls. Perfect for each other. Placed in the wrong corners of the universe.

And perhaps — that’s the most challenging  thing the universe can ever do.
